Blyde River Canyon
Area of the Blyde River canyon under half of the confluence of the rivers Treur (custody) and Blyde (joy) is one of the great natural wonders of Africa. The Blyde River Canyon is a massive and majestic red sandstone gorge, whose sides drop almost vertically to the water on the bottom.
The north-eastern Transvaal, which is followed by the Kruger National Park is one of the most scenic regions of southern Africa. There is the Blyde River Canyon, a gorge with steep bizarre waste of 600-900 m depth, which has cut the flow of weathered dolomite layers. The focus of this landscape is the same Nature Reserve, famous for its rich flora and bird life and forms the plateau edge of the Eastern Transvaal Drakensberg.
Views of the Blyde River Canyon from the Lowveld ViewpointDer view from the edge of the Highveld is over 1000 m deep down and far over the Lowveld and the Kruger Park and back to Mozambique. The road along the canyon is not called Panorama route, because there are some fantastic views, only minutes away from the parking lot. (more…)
