The Desert city of Jaisalmer

The desert city of Jaisalmer was founded in 1156 amidst the Thar desert. Today the city is part of the Indian state of Rajasthan. Known is the 80,000 inhabitants in the city with the impressive medieval fort and other buildings that were built of yellow sandstone, brown and gold shimmer in the sun. Therefore, Jaisalmer is also known as “Golden City”.
Jaisalmer was on the camel caravan routes between India and Central Asia. The city helped the very wealthy. With the rise of shipping, however, took on the role of the city and the trade routes. The city is surrounded by a 5 km long city wall. Today, Jaisalmer with its medieval city center, beautiful facades and ornately carved wooden balconies, a popular tourist attraction. Local attractions include the mighty fort, which overlooks the city. Behind the fortress walls conceal impressive palaces, temples and residential houses. We recommend a visit to the seven-story palace “Maharawal Palace” with exquisite wall paintings and elaborately carved mirrors.

Varanasi in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is one of the oldest cities in the world, because it was mentioned 3,000 years ago in the heroic epics of Skanda-Purana and Mahabharata.
The city on the Ganges is the most important of the seven sacred cities of Hindus. For Hindus, Varanasi is a pilgrimage site and the capital of traditional Hindu culture. The banks of the Ganges is always surrounded by believers and pilgrims, for a swim in “sacred river”is considered a spiritual purification for sins. Called to the swimming holes, even Ghats, is a surge of countless pilgrims. The air is filled with the chant of the priests and the scent of flowers. The ablutions of the faithful take place at sunrise. Another custom of the Hindus is to scatter the ashes of the dead in the Ganges.
Interesting is the center of Varanasi with a large number of temples, shrines and religious bathing areas. It is recommended to visit the Golden Temple, the non-Hindus, however, can only be seen from the outside, the Durga Temple and the Temple Bharat Mata Mandir.
